Job Duties

This group performs some or all of the following duties:
  1. Greet customers
  2. Establish or identify the price of goods, services or admission and tabulate total payment required using electronic or other cash registers, optical price scanner or other equipment
  3. Weigh produce and bulk foods
  4. Receive and process payments by cash, cheque, credit card or automatic debit
  5. Wrap or place merchandise in bags
  6. Provide information to customers
  7. Assist sports spectators and theatre patrons with seat selection
  8. Calculate the foreign currency exchange
  9. Calculate total payments received at end of the work shift and reconcile with total sales
  10. Verify the age of customers when selling lottery tickets, alcohol or tobacco products
  11. May accept reservations and take-out orders
  12. May also stock shelves and clean the check-out counter area.
