Job Duties

1.       Perform a full lifecycle product development (design, develop, test prototypes, manufacture and implement)
2.       Design systems and components that meet needs and requirements
3.       Produce outline designs
4.       Conduct experiments methodically, analyse data and interpret results
5.       Test and evaluate theoretical designs
6.       Identify, formulate and produce effective solutions to emerging problems
7.       Evaluate final product’s overall performance, reliability and safety
8.       Alter and modify design to meet requirements and to eliminate malfunctions
9.       Estimate budget and scope of project
10.    Solicit observations from operators
11.    Prepare product reports and documentation
12.    Engage in lifelong learning and develop new theories or methods
13.    Designs mechanical and electromechanical products and systems by developing and testing specifications and methods.
14.    Evaluates mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs and applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials.
15.    Confirms system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods and properties.

Education Requirement

1.       A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or in a related engineering discipline is required.
2.       A master's degree or doctorate in a related engineering discipline may be required.
3.       Licensing by a provincial or territorial association of professional engineers is required to approve engineering drawings and reports and to practise as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
4.       Engineers are eligible for registration following graduation from an accredited educational program, and after three or four years of supervised work experience in engineering and passing a professional practice examination.
